Dear MLS Update:

Can you refresh my memory on the policy for submitting listing contracts?

Contracting in Elkhart

Dear Contracting:

According to Section 1 of the MLS Rules & Regulations, you have 7 days after the signatures of the seller to deliver a copy of the listing contract to the MLS office. You may do so by mail or by faxing it to the MLS office at 875-7174 or 674-2498. When sending the copy via fax or mail, you must include the MLS number on the listing contract. Failure to provide the MLS with the listing contract will result in a fine.

SECTION 1 LISTING PROCEDURES: All listings of properties, properly signed by the seller(s) and the agent, of the following types, located within the territorial jurisdiction of the Elkhart County Board of REALTORS® taken by Participants and which do not establish, directly or indirectly, any contractual relationship between the Multiple Listing Service and the client (buyer or seller) shall be entered into the computer within 72 hours (excepting weekends and holidays). Said listing will be delivered to the MLS office within seven (7) days after signatures of seller(s) have been obtained.

Dear MLS Update:

Will the MLS be giving Realtor.com any additional property types in the near future?

Vacant Land in Goshen

Dear Vacant Land:

The MLS is investigating the possibility of allowing realtor.com access to the vacant land property type. An email will be sent to all agents through the list serve as soon as information is available.

MLS Conversion Update

The conversion process is running right on schedule. Currently the system is being built and tested. The MLS staff attended training on the administration of the new system Monday, January 31 st and Tuesday, February 1, 2005. The training went very well and we did learn the system is very different than the current system so the change will be challenging.

In addition, a conversion packet was given to the Participants at the Participant meeting held on January 18, 2005. The packet was sent to all Participants who did not attend the meeting on January 19, 2005. The packet contains information on what can be done to prepare for the conversion, business rule changes, training schedule etc. Additional packets are available to Participants by calling the Board office at 875-3283.

One of the issues we are currently experiencing is a conflict with Sun Java. Apparently, the newer computers and laptops have Sun Java installed instead of Microsoft Java. The current MLS system and new MLS system were written to run on Microsoft Java and not Sun Java, therefore, Microsoft Java must be installed on your computer if you want to use the MLS system. How do you do this? You can go to the FNIS website for assistance. The address is www.fnismls.com Click on Support, Click on Knowledge Base, Scroll down the “Choose a Product” box and select REX (This can be used for Paragon also) and then the next page will display issues. Select the issue that says “Web site is not displaying all the features” and then you will find instructions on downloading Microsoft Java.

Or you can all the Free Technology Hotline at 1-866-232-1833 and tell them you need help installing Microsoft Java.

Also, both systems are designed to run on the Internet Explorer browser and any other browser will experience issues. FNIS can only support Internet Explorer so if you decide to use another browser for the Internet please retain Internet Explorer for MLS use.

Other challenges: Firewalls, Virus Protection, Pop-Up Blockers etc. We will get more information to you on how to handle these issues. Please feel free to download the MLS Conversion Packet here.
