LEGISLATIVE AND POLITICAL FORUM, Tuesday, May 16, 7:30am – 9:00am
Invited speakers include Senator Michael Enzi (R-WY), Chairman of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee to discuss S.1955, his Small Business Health Plan legislation and Representative Maxine Waters (D-CA), ranking member of the House Financial Services Subcommittee on Housing and Community Opportunity to discuss the 109th Congress and housing. Confirmed speaker includes Dr. Larry Sabato, founder and director of the University of Virginia’s Center for Politics and noted political analyst/commentator, who will discuss the 2006 congressional elections and the current political climate on Capitol Hill.

Ginny Brown-Waite (R-FL), sponsor of H.R.4366, The Homeowners Insurance Protection Act of 2005. Confirmed speakers include L. James Valverde, Senior Economist with the Insurance Information Institute, and Admiral James Loy, Co-Chair of ProtectingAmerica.org, a coalition devoted to educating the public about the need for a solution to respond to major catastrophes. Carl Guardino, President and CEO, Silicon Valley Leadership Group to discuss workforce housing. The Silicon Valley Leadership Group is a public policy trade association that represents more than 200 of Silicon Valley’s most respected sector employers who collectively provide more than 250,000 local jobs in Silicon Valley. Under Mr. Guardino’s leadership the Group has undertaken innovative methods to address the workforce housing crisis fueled by skyrocketing home values in Silicon Valley. TOWN HALL MEETING ON SMALL BUSINESS HEALTH PLANS, Tuesday, May 16, 10:30am – 12:00pm
NAR is collaborating with the Citizens Health Care Working Group to feature a town hall meeting on health care issues. As part of the Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement, and Modernization Act Of 2003, the U.S. Congress created the Citizens' Health Care Working Group. The Working Group is made up of 14 members selected by Comptroller General of the U.S. David Walker. By law, the Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) serves as the 15th member. The Working Group’s mission is to provide for a nationwide public debate about improving the health care system to provide every American with the ability to obtain quality, affordable health care coverage and to develop an action plan for Congress and the President to consider as they work to make health care that works for all Americans.
