FIDELITY CHANGING FROM MAPQuest TO MapPoint
Dear MLS Update:
A lot of my listings are being incorrectly placed on the map in the MLS. One of my listings was placed directly in the middle of the Elkhart River. Another listing is in a new development that isn’t even showing on MapQuest. Is there anything I can do about it?
Mapping in Goshen
Dear Mapping:
Our MLS vendor, Fidelity, was using MapQuest to map all the listings. However, on May 24, 2006 Fidelity will be changing to MapPoint. MapPoint data is updated every 3-6 months where as MapQuest was only updating every 1-2 years.
Updated maps are critical to a growing real estate industry that depends on up-to-date information. Also, MapPoint will not map a property to a “zip” code, which is what happened to your listing floating in the Elkhart River. When the listing is entered, it will make two attempts to map the property. The first attempt will be at the address. The second will be at the nearest crossroad. If MapPoint cannot map the property, it will say “no map available.” At that point, your office staff will be able to physically place the house directly on the map themselves.
