Dear MLS Update:
Recently, I had problems getting into some parts of the MLS. The only change I made to my computer was installing Norton Antivirus Software. Your office faxed me information from our MLS Vendor on pop-ups. It helped me a lot. I don’t think a lot of our membership is aware our system uses pop-ups. I think it would be great if you could put that information in the newsletter.
Popping in Elkhart
Dear Popping: Great idea. The following information is taken from a 6-page document provided by our MLS vendor, Fidelity (FNIS) that outlines the recommended browser and Norton Internet Security settings based on MS Internet Explorer 6.0 and versions of Norton Internet Security, Norton Personal Firewall and Norton Antivirus. If you need additional help, you can call Agent Support at 1-800-347-6367.
Pop-Up Blocking
The print windows and binocular selection windows of the RE/Xplorer web site are pop-up windows. If they are blocked, key elements of the RE/Xplorer web site will not work. Pop-Up blocking is part of the ad blocking features of Norton Internet Security and Norton Personal Firewall.
1. Open Norton Internet Security.
2. Double-click Ad Blocking.
3. In the Ad Blocking window, in the Ad Blocking settings for drop-down list, select the account that you want to change.
4. Uncheck Turn on Popup Window Blocking.
5. Click OK.
A potential alternative to turning off all Pop-Up blocking is to use text strings to permit ads. Norton Internet Security and Norton Personal Firewall can be set to block or permit ads based on the content of the web site address. It is unclear whether these settings include Pop-Up Windows, or whether they merely affect same-window ads.
1. Open Norton Internet Security.
2. At the top of the Security Center window, click Options > Internet Security.
3. On the Web Content tab, on the Ad Blocking tab, click Add Site.
4. In the New Site/Domain dialog box, for Norton Internet Security 2001/2002 type *.rexplorer.net, for Norton Internet Security 2003 type rexplorer.net .
5. On the Ad Blocking tab, click Add.
6. In the Add New HTML String dialog box, select Permit.
7. Type in *.rexplorer.net
8. Click OK.
