Update from NAR - Katrina Relief

In a letter from NAR President, Al Mansell, funds contributed by REALTORS® are going directly to foundations set up by the state REALTOR® Associations in those states to help those in greatest need to get back on their feet. Every day they are hearing pleas for assistance from REALTORS® and other Gulf storm victims who have suffered terribly in New Orleans , Lake Charles , Biloxi , Mobile and other towns across the Gulf Coast . Thanks and prayers go out to the volunteer REALTORS® who have taken on the task of distributing the funds we are raising.

In just one week, REALTORS® across the land have given more than 1.2 million dollars to help fellow REALTORS® and other victims of Hurricane Katrina. Counting the funds contributed by NAR, the REALTORS® Relief Foundation has raised nearly $2.4 million.

That's a tremendous start but more will be needed. The needs are huge and the resources are never enough. Thousands of REALTORS® are homeless. Thousands more are out of business because their communities are in shambles. No one knows how long it will be until their lives are whole again, but surely it will be a matter of many months, perhaps longer. Certainly, it will take that long before the real estate business in the region resembles anything close to what it was like before Katrina struck.

Only the REALTOR® Relief Foundations with state funds for Hurricane Katrina victims are specifically tasked with helping REALTORS® and other hurricane victims in need. Our friends and fellow REALTORS® are hurting. They need us. Can you help? EVERY PENNY donated will go directly to help victims of Hurricane Katrina get back on their feet. To contribute by mail, checks should be made payable to the REALTORS® Relief Fund and sent to NAR, Attn: NAR Finance Division, 430 N. Michigan Ave. , Chicago IL 60611.

You may obtain a copy of the REALTORS® Relief Foundation's financial report by sending a request to 430 N. Michigan Ave., Chicago, IL 60611. For your information, REALTORS® Relief Foundation registers with agencies in many states. Some of them will supply you with the financial and registration information they have on file.
