ECBOR ANNUAL REALTOR® DUES and RPAC MAILED OUT

The 2007 Annual REALTOR® Dues were mailed out to the Brokers on August 15, 2006 and were due October 1, 2006.  Agents who have not yet received their invoice should contact their Principal Broker for a copy of the dues invoice.  Please be aware that dues paid after October 31, 2006 will be subject to penalties and late fees in accordance with the ByLaws.

HOW DO MEMBERS GET SELECTED FOR THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS AND WHAT ARE THEIR DUTIES?

Nomination Form – Forms are mailed to each ECBOR REALTOR® and every MLS member in July in addition to being posted on the Board web site. Any member who is interested can submit their nomination form by the deadline listed on the form.  The form has a place where members can check whether they are interested in being considered for a Director position or for Secretary/Treasurer.  The process we use allows members to submit their own name for consideration and we do not require that someone else “nominate” you.

Nominating Committee - The ECBOR Nominating Committee consists of three REALTOR® members appointed by the ECBOR President.  The MLS Nominating Committee consists of three Participant (Principal Broker) members appointed by the MLS President.  The committee meets to consider the nominees and they have the latitude to extend an opportunity to members who have not sent in a nomination form.

The MLS Nominating Committee is required to follow the By-laws and the MLS slate has to have a majority of Participants. Participants are considered the member and agents have access through the Participant.

The ECBOR Nominating Committee can consider any one of the 400+ members of this organization as long as they are a REALTOR® member. Affiliates are not entitled to have a seat on the Board of Directors for MLS or ECBOR.

Both committees consider what offices are being represented, they consider the length of time a member has been in business and how active they have been in the Board.  They also work to ensure the Board has representation from Elkhart and Goshen. Most of the nominees want to be a Director and with just a few openings we can’t take all nominees.  Many nominees have served on the Board and want to continue. The committee tries to select the Secretary/Treasurer from the Director pool whenever possible to ensure they have people who are familiar with the process. However, this is not always possible and members can be selected who have not previously served on the Board. The committee has a responsibility to put together a well-balanced slate to represent the membership.

The nominees are contacted in advance to make sure they are able to fill the position.  After the slate is filled, letters are sent out to the members to “officially” notify them they have been selected to fill a position on the Board.  The slate is then sent out to the membership to review prior to the annual meeting.  At the annual meeting in October the members vote for the ECBOR slate and the Participants vote for the MLS Slate.  After the vote, notice is sent out to notify the members they are officially elected and give them information regarding their upcoming duties.
