2006 REALTORS® CONFERENCE & EXPO
New Orleans
FRIDAY, November 10th through MONDAY, November 13th
Rejuvenate!
In August 2005 the nation watched as New Orleans, a city synonymous with historic charm and good times, was ravaged by hurricanes and floodwaters. Scenes of devastation, suffering, and a city on its knees replaced the popular images of the “Big Easy”—jazz clubs, street performers, world-class restaurants, Bourbon Street, and Mardi Gras.
Thanks to the indomitable spirit of New Orleanians, their love of good times and joy is just as much a part of the city’s soul as the determination to rebuild and reclaim their heritage. With the convening of the 2006 REALTORS® Conference & Expo, Nov. 10–13, in the Crescent City, REALTORS® from around the country will renew their commitment to making this city whole again.
When you come to New Orleans, you’ll not only find the resources to grow personally and professionally through more than 200 educational sessions and an exhibit hall packed with more than 600 exhibitors, you’ll also make your personal contribution to the city’s rejuvenation, both economically and physically.
The New Orleans Metropolitan Convention and Visitors Bureau estimates that each association, convention, and trade show visitor spends an average of $800 with local retailers during their stay. Plus, the revenues generated from sales, hotel, and restaurant taxes go toward schools, regional transportation, and other vital public services the city so desperately needs. Overall, the 2006 REALTORS® Conference & Expo will pump an estimated $40 million into the struggling local economy.
But that’s only the start of the impact you can make when you attend this year’s conference. A week of volunteer activities—from Tuesday, Nov. 7, through Tuesday, Nov. 14 (except Sunday)—has been organized so that you can roll up your sleeves and provide hands-on assistance to the people of New Orleans. Volunteers of all skill levels are needed for projects ranging from building and rehabbing homes to restocking bookshelves at the public library.
Of course, when your day’s work is done, there’ll be plenty of opportunities for you to have some fun. The Central Business District, French Quarter, Warehouse and Arts District, Faubourg Marigny neighborhood, Audubon Zoo, Garden District, Magazine Street, and St. Charles Avenue are back to business and bustling with food, jazz, and fun.
To help plan your trip, check out REALTOR.org/conference for up-to-the-minute information on all of the conference’s proceedings. If you can’t travel to New Orleans, you’ll still be able to stay on top of each day’s happenings by going to REALTOR.org/nardigrasnews, where you’ll be able to access an online version of REALTOR® Magazine’s Show Daily, news reports from REALTOR® Magazine Online, and a blog by REALTOR.org editors, who’ll give you a more personal take on the conference.
REALTORS® understand what it takes to build strong communities, and they’re leaders in stepping forward to get the job done. In New Orleans, you’ll have a chance to do what you do best.
